Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC)
Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC) is a public research institute dedicated to the study of Ecology, Evolution and the Conservation of Biodiversity. It forms part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The Station's mission is to develop multidisciplinary research at the highest level that contributes to the understanding of ecology, evolution and conservation of biodiversity. The Doñana Biological Station seeks to understand how biodiversity is generated and maintained, and how it responds to environmental change. It aims to assess the consequences of biodiversity loss and what are the possibilities for its conservation and restoration. An important part of its projects and dedication consists of transferring knowledge to society.
While the Doñana Biological Station conducts research worldwide, it maintains a strong connection to the Doñana National Park, which continues to serve as a core research site and case study. The Station also manages the ICTS Doñana, the largest field laboratory in Europe and a research tool open to the entire scientific community. ICTS Doñana provides access and support to field research in the Doñana area, to develop and implement monitoring programs of the physical environment, the wildlife and the ecosystems and to generate biodiversity databases following international standards.
