Our Mission
The OneHealthSecure project aims to support the countries in the Mediterranean region to adapt to climate change by tackling vector-borne diseases using a One Health approach. To achieve this, the project will capitalize on the unique One Health network established during MediLabSecure by addressing remaining gaps in viral vector-borne diseases prevention and preparedness. By using vector-borne diseases as a model, in the long term, the project aims to promote the recognition of One Health concept and the implementation of One Health practices in beneficiary countries.
To do so, the OneHealthSecure project will:
- Integrate the environmental sector and support the community involvement. By building the capacities to monitor wildlife hosts, vectors and the pathogen they may transmit, it enables the scientists to better understand epidemic dynamics
- Provide the scientists with capacities on how to encourage the local community engagement.
- Improve preparedness and response capacities to vector-borne diseases through improved diagnosis, vector control, laboratory capacity and communication. By strengthening human, animal and vector laboratories preparedness capacities, they are able to detect and identify priority emerging vector-borne diseases, and to alert if needed.
- Strengthen One Health systems awareness, advocacy and adoption in beneficiary countries. Nowadays, the concept of One Health is well-known by scientific experts across the world. Nonetheless, there is a gap between ‘knowing the One Health concept’ and ‘implementing One Health’ through deploying multisectoral expert collaborations on the field. That is why OneHealthSecure is promoting One Health, by gathering multisectoral experts to raise awareness on its added value in preparing and responding to vector-borne diseases threats
- Encourage the empowerment of members through a more inclusive approach by fostering partnerships, supporting members’ local activities, and promoting South-South collaborations, the project envisions a resilient and sustainable network to effectively combat viral vector-borne diseases.
- Strengthen knowledge transfer capacity and support network members to engage in dialogue with policy makers to contribute to political commitment to the adoption of the One Health approach
