Building Capacity in Knowledge Translation: Policy Brief Writing Training
Preventing vector-borne diseases requires a solid understanding based on scientific research. To ensure that scientific results lead to actionable policies, scientists must be able to translate their work into clear, accessible information for decision-makers.
To strengthen this capacity, the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), leading the medical entomology sector within the OneHealthSecure project coordinated by Institut Pasteur, organized a Policy Brief Writing Training from November 10th to 13th at Sète, France.
Opened to experts from all sectors, the training conveyed knowledge translation strategies as well as tools to write policy briefs and to organize a deliberative workshop. In total, 16 trainees from 10 countries – Algeria, Egypt, Georgia, Kosovo, Lebanon, Macedonia, Mauritania, Morocco, Serbia, Tunisia – participated in the program.
The four training days alternated theoretical lectures, practical exercises, individual and group work and plenary sessions.
During the onsite training, participants wrote their own policy brief on their scientific results and presented their research subjects.
